Fully functioning copy available to download
Stroma, the multi-displine accreditation scheme, has made its Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) software free to anyone and everyone that wants it - accredited or not!
The software is fully functional although reports can only be lodged if you are registered with an accreditation scheme, obviously. But it does provide an opportunity for anyone considering a career as a Code Assessor to get a feel for what's involved.
Visit Stroma's download page to grab a copy.
Notching them up
Stroma has recently scored a few firsts: Back in January BRE awarded its first sub-licence to Stroma to become a training and accreditation scheme for the Code; and during May it lodged the first Display Energy Certificate (DEC) for a public building.
Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) - The path to zero carbon homes
The CSH became law on May 1st 2008 as a key part of the Government's strategy to build zero carbon homes by 2016.
The new regulations require all new dwellings to be rated against the six levels of its Code (seven if you count the Nil-rating): A Nil rating signifies a mere nodding compliance to current building regulations, whilst Level 6 summons a scented choir of singing angels to adorn with kisses, the beacon of zero carbonicity, leaving a heavenly halo where once the festering filth of humankind escaped.
The plan is to "staircase" each Level into law as the building industry gears up.
