Energy Assessors Now Pre-Moderating

Submitted by: MikeC (Admin) on 31-May-07 11:43:40 AM

The forum at Energy Assessors was suspended last week following a number of "offensive and abusive" comments made on the same day as Ruth Kelly's announcement to delay Home Information Packs (HIPs).

I didn't see the comments but judging by the 3 members that have since been banned, I know at least one of them - idrobs2 - was apparently a Domestic Energy Assessor (in-training or qualified).

Tom Orton, forum Moderator, re-opened the forum yesterday saying:

I can tell you that 3 users have been barred from contributing further - idrobs2, secretferret and surveyor - we wished to achieve this before the Forum was brought back into operation again - and their recent posts either deleted or editted. I sincerely hope the posts in question did not cause too much distress and offence and that all our other users will continue to regard the Forum as a valubale resource.

I can understand that feelings have been running high since Kelly's announcement, but even before this, I have been struck by the bitching, sniping and point-scoring that is dished-out by certain members of all the forums I frequent on the topic of Home Information Packs (HIPs).

I think it's wise to remember that this is the internet, and Google's far-reaching tentacles indexes this stuff, in theory, forever! You have to be a clever operator if you think hiding behind a pseudonym isn't going to connect you to your business operations... Google can be very powerful. You have been warned!

Finally, I hope Tom Orton re-thinks the decision to pre-moderate all postings as I believe it will inevitably result in losing members. Fingers crossed.
