Institute of Home Inspection undergoes a radical change
The Institute of Home Inspection (IHI) seems to have suddenly sprung to life in the last couple of weeks, now it has finally got past the bureaucratic hurdles involved in becoming "institutionalised".
Yesterday's latest sudden surprise announcement was that Linda Gray accepted the role of IHI Trustee, together with Tony Gordon becoming Life-Long President, and Shane O' Reilly, Council Chair.
What do those positions mean? LOLs... Don't ask me!
But things are clearly happening and Linda's appointment signifies a new momentum forward.
As listeners to previous podcast's will know, Linda has been very much proactive in championing the Cause of DEAs, even representing over a 1000 DEAs and HIs in a meeting with the then Minister for Communities and Local Government (CLG), Ruth Kelly (She's off again to the CLG next week).
In her statement to her own Lobby Group (LLG), she wrote:
We now have to step up the pace as there are too many pot shots being taken at DEAs and HIs. I believe that one body, to represent everyone, is desperately needed – and needed now!
We are currently too fragmented and can achieve more working with others. I have, following a great deal of thought, decided to take up the invitation to become a trustee of the Institute of Home Inspection (IHI).
It is not a decision I have taken lightly. I had also been asked by others to help promote the setting up of a brand new organisation and several people have suggested to me that I start one. I felt I needed to take action.
I know she has apparently been approached by other parties and has been torn on what to do, and/or, whether to do anything. This represents to her, therefore, a brave jump into something, I'm sure, she has ruminated long and hard.
I don't pretend to know a great deal about the history, or make-up of the IHI, though I do know many DEAs have been calling for a collective to represent their interests.
Well, it's happening, with renewed vigour seemingly.
