...but not British Gas!
This one quietly slipped under the radar: On 9th January 2008, Telford-based company, Stroma Technology Ltd, was approved by the CLG to operate an accreditation scheme for domestic dwellings, newly constructed dwellings, public buildings and non-dwellings.
They're certainly steaming into this new multi-million pound market; only a couple of weeks ago, BRE awarded its first sub-licence to Stroma Accreditation Ltd for the training and accreditation of assessors for the Code of Sustainable Homes.
British Gas not approved
The CLG website has gone to the trouble of highlighting that British Gas is not an approved accreditation scheme:
British Gas has not been approved by the Secretary of State as an accreditation scheme. Therefore, its Energy Assessors are unable to issue Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs). Only EPCs that have been produced by an Energy Assessor accredited with one of the approved schemes are valid for inclusion in the Home Information Pack.
(Emphasis theirs, not mine)
Domestic Energy Assessor accreditation scheme *
Not quite sure what prompted that statement but clearly serious enough to warrant specific clarification.
