Accreditation scheme, DEA Panel and Training Provider Quidos Ltd

Submitted by: MikeC (Admin) on 11-Sep-07 10:00:00 PM

It's my pleasure to welcome back Philip Salaman - Managing Director of Quidos Ltd - to share his latest thoughts and industry insights from the multiple perspectives of being an accreditation scheme, EPC Panel Manager, DEA employer and DEA training provider.

We cover lots on this one (some of which might ruffle a few feathers, but it is from the heart folks!) and have a few laughs too.

Training provider troubles

If you are/have been affected by the apparent troubles over at Morgan Whittaker, then you should definitely listen as Philip may be able to help you.

DEA Institutes - what's happening?

We discuss the effectiveness and roles of both the Institute of Home Inspection (IHI) and Institute of Domestic Energy Assessors (IDEA), and ask what are they doing and where are they going.

Plus loads more.

Once again, many thanks to Philip Salaman for his invaluable thoughts and time.

I blogged about the high cover (and premiums) on DEA insurance last week.

Hi Mike,

I have been offered work with ENERGICO CONSULTANTS LTD aka Energy Inpectors Direct.
HOWEVER, the contract was signed by the Company and myself for me to start on the 1st Sept 2007.

I have been told that due to the slow start the company has to take consideration into the money coming in and expenditures so some employees have been put on pro rata work (part time).

I am still waiting for my first job since 1st August and i was wandering where i stand with this so called contract that both parties have signed.

I was told that employment will happen as soon as the 3 bedrooms come in, well its now the 12th Sept and i am still waiting.

I am considering going to another Company but i am unsure what one to go for.

I want to work full time, i have completed and passed the City & Guilds Course with Energy Inspectors Direct.

I am concerned that if employment does not happen soon then i may have to wait until after Xmas when historically the market picks up.

I will welcome any comments from yourself with work or this contract i have signed.

Thank you for your time.

Hi Alan

In short, I wouldn't hang about - Although HIPs on 3-beds and over has only been a reality for a couple of days, one has to be realistic and appreciate that EAs will be back-dating whilst they can which only serves to paint a bleaker picture for your potential employer (without knowing anything more than you have shared).

You've posted in the Quidos podcast page, so I'm minded to suggest calling them up although I don't know if they are directly employing DEAs onto their payroll ATM. They are a Panel Manager however.

Alternatively, Christopher Rodgers (Home and Energy) Ltd have just announced a second recruitment drive nationally - Look in the blog section... I only posted it a couple of days ago.

Good luck.
